The University General Hospital of Larissa was founded with the P.D. 411/95 and started its operation on 9/27/99. Located in the area Mezourlos of the city of Larissa, Larissa Prefecture and occupies a building 89,000 sq.m. on a plot of land of 150 acres.
Construction began on 25/07/1991 and was completed in 1998.
The development of the Hospital, within the framework of its organization, takes place gradually with decisions of the Board of Directors and according to the respective decisions and directions of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The aim of the hospital is to provide secondary and mainly of tertiary care to citizens, the installation in it of university clinics, laboratories and special medical units of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly, as well as the development of corresponding or other units of the National Health System, the training of doctors and other health scientists and the development of health research.
