The PUBLIC INSTITUTE FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING – D.Ι.Ε.Κ.of Law 4186/2013 under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health, was established at the Larissa University General Hospital in 2015. Operates as a provider of Initial Vocational Training through the General Nursing Nursing Assistant specialty of the Health and Welfare orientation group.

the creation of health professionals who adopt the scientific way of thinking and acting and are oriented towards the modern professional profile of the Nursing Assistant.

to contribute to the successful promotion and adaptation of human resources to the requirements of the modern and competitive Health sector, combining the acquisition of up-to-date knowledge with the development of appropriate skills and the adoption of transformative attitudes  

Purpose of D.I.E.K. is………

the provision of high quality education services (initial vocational training) aimed at adult citizens having

as goals:

  • Promoting equal opportunities in learning
  • Strengthening the status of a health professional through the acquisition and expansion of cognitive and communication skills
  • Improving the ability to respond and adapt to the modern and ever-changing work environment of the Health sector both at national and European level

 In D.I.E.K. emphasis is placed on the following:

  • In teaching based on the principles of adult education
  • In the application  of modern  educational  methods and techniques
  • In the creation of suitable educational material
  • In the use of modern supervisory tools during the teaching process
  • In the staffing of the educational staff by health professionals with a high level of knowledge and skills and experience in adult education
  • In the continuous training of human resources (instructors)
  • In the familiarization of the trainees with the real working conditions in the field of Health in the context of laboratory courses and practical training

The Public Institute of Vocational Training (D.I.E.K.) of P.G.N. Larissa with headquarters in the P.G.N. of Larissa, was founded in 2015 with ministerial decision No. 1394/57870 (Government Gazette 1038/Β΄/2015) and henceforth operates with the specialty "General Hospital Nursing Assistant". It is a natural continuation of the historical "School" of G.N. Larissa "Koutlibaneio & Triantafillio", which operated for the first time in 1973..

Chronology: In 1973, the one-year School of Nursing Assistants was established by presidential decree 273/73 (Government Gazette 224 A΄). In 1980, it was converted into a two-year Intermediate Technical Vocational Nursing School (M.T.E.N.S.) with Ministerial Decision No. A4b/oc. 798. In 2000, it was converted into a TEE of the First Cycle of Nursing Assistants with a two-year course of study by ministerial decision No. Y7b/ok 4289 (Government Gazette 986 B΄). In 2006, it was converted into a two-year Vocational School of Nursing Assistants (EPA.S) with Ministerial Decision No. Y7b/g.p.ok.49151 (Government Gazette 676 B΄) .In 2015, the Public Vocational Training Institutes (D.I.E.K.) under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health were established, which are branches of the corresponding Nursing Institutions of the E.S.Y. where they are based, with ministerial decision No. C4a/G.P. 12972 (Government Gazette 1038 B΄). The D.I.E.K. is established at the P.G.N. Larissa of the Larissa University General Hospital. Since 1973, more than 930 people have been trained and graduated


  • Studying at D.I.E.K. is provided free of charge and takes place during the morning hours
  • There is no age limit for enrollment and study.
  • The training lasts 5 semesters, divided as follows: in 4 semesters of theoretical and laboratory training, (1200 hours of specialization), and in 1 semester of Internship or Apprenticeship of a total duration of 960 hours.
  • Each academic year includes two study semesters of 300 hours training.
  • The winter term ends on February 15th and the spring term ends on June 30th.
  • The fifth semester of Internship may take place during the third and fourth semesters of study (in parallel).
  • Attendance is compulsory in all courses.
  • During their studies at DIEK, the trainees are entitled to postponement of conscription.

Right to apply for selection at Α΄ Semester

Graduates of General High School, EPA.S., EPA.L., TEE 2nd Cycle of Studies, T.E.L. have the right to submit an application for selection for enrollment in the 1st Semester regardless of age limit.

Right to submit an application for ranking in the 3rd Semester>

Graduates of EPAS., EPAL., TEE 2nd Cycle of Studies, TEL. Specialization E.P.L., I.E.K., related specialties according to the current legislation, regardless of age limit.

  • The intended original degree (baccalaureate or degree)
  • Photocopy of Police ID Card or Passport
  • Certificate of marital status

if it is a parent with many or three children or a child of a large or three-child family or a single-parent family, with the restrictions set by the current legislation.

For the registration of foreign nationals of countries outside/within the EU, and expatriates is required

  • The filing of a passport or identity card of expatriates
    • Residence permit for non-EU nationals.
    • In case of not graduating from a Greek High School or Secondary School it is required to submit the equivalent degree,an official translation of it as well as its equivalent, issued by a Greek public service, & Language Certificate. .
  • Certificate of I.K.A or Public Service, which will indicate  the previous service (salaries or years) that the candidate may have performed related to the specialty he wishes to be trained or a certificate from the Public Financial Service (D.O.Y) which indicates the time of the candidate exercising a specific qualification..

The trainees after the successful completion of the 5 semesters of training at D.I.E.K. receive a Vocational Training Certificate (BEK).

Diploma of Professional Specialty

BEK gives the right to participate in the certification exams of EOPPEP for the acquisition of the Vocational Specialty Education and Training Level 5 Diploma, which is recognized both in Greece and in the countries of the European Union.

License to practice

The acquisition of the Diploma after the successful completion of the EOPPEP certification exams gives the right to issue a License to Practice the Profession of General Nursing Assistant.

Job market/ Professional career

Graduates can apply for professional rehabilitation in Greece but also in Europe and other countries.

Specifically, by completing their studies, they have obtained all the knowledge that makes them able to work in the entire range of care structures, such as:

- Public or Private Hospitals

- Public or Private Clinics

- Community Centers

- Nursing homes

- Chronic disease clinics

- Health centres

- Social welfare structures (KIF, home help program, etc.)

- Psychiatric structures
